Day 4 - Tired ZZZ!

Image
Nyhavn canal Today I was tired!! So I decided it was a day to do only a couple of things and then write this blog! So I went to the famous canal and took the obligatory pictures and once I found that the nearby art gallery was closed, I instead decided to head over to Christianhavn to explore that island and take better pictures of Our Savior's Church. On the way I found a famous ice cream shop called Kastbergs which sells Licorice ice cream! Delicious! The Church of Our Saviour had the option to go up the spiral tower but 1. I am scared of heights and 2. the next tour was in 40 minutes and I didn't want to wait. Inside the Church was gorgeous!  The photo doesn't show that the spiral is a staircase! How amazing is this! I would be totally distracted every week by this in front of me! This must be loud! I decided I didn't want to do Tivoli. I am not a fan of fun fairs anyway and it seemed similar to the Vienna fairground (minus the ferris wheel) so wasn't too bothe...

Day 3 - all of the Royals!

Image
So today was another day with a long train journey but I arrived at Elsinore, where Shakespeare set Hamlet (but not based on anyone real). Elsinore is a lovely picturesque historical town with a cultural centre and plenty to keep you entertained if you were staying abit longer. as I had plans I only visited the Kronborg castle. It really reminded me of Hampton Court Palace, medieval castle which had been updated by later Landlords. It's only royal connection was it was were the traitorous Queen (The British one, of course) was held there until she got rescued (you know the one from the movie 'The royal affair'). They had a really interesting exhibition where someone had created modern photo portrait of each of the royals key stories with the costumes used. it was really well done. I jumped back on the train back to the city and then headed off to Christianborg which is at the heart of the city. This was the best of the Royal palaces, it had the Royal Reception rooms which...

Day two - Vikings and more Royal palaces!

Statutes to commemorate the Tour de France that held a stage Roskilde                                    Today, being Sunday, a few of the places I wanted to visit weren't open so I decided to head out to Roskilde and visit the Viking boat museum. In all honestly it was very similar to when the British Museum held an exhibition on Viking boat museum but I have seen a thousand museums so might not be the best judge. The centre was surrounded by kid focused activities, boat building (actual woodwork), rope making and a Viking camp. They also had a dock with lots of reproduction of boats from throughout the Viking era.  I then went off to see the Roskilde Cathedral, which is were all the royals are buried even though the capital has moved to Copenhagen. It was very nice inside (I wasn't sure if I could take photos so I have not taken any) and full of lots of interesting maus...

Day One

Image
After alot of stress before I got here the actual journey itself was very easy! I stayed in a Capsule hotel at Gatwick over night. Which was interesting and very nice. (link to my Tik Tok here ). Once I arrived in Copenhagen and joined the queue for Passport control - where the Immigration officer found my name very long and asked what I wanted to be known as! I got my stamp and headed to the train station. I had picked up a Visit Copenhagen card and this made travel and visiting place economical and easy. I was able to get to my hotel in 20 minutes but couldn't check in so left my bag and went to explore the city.  I was staying near the Fields Shopping Centre that had a memorial to the recent shooting that took place there but as a British person I am use to being around places were violence has happened. There is something comfortable about Shopping Centres, because while they might hold different shops, they are set up the same and you find a coffee, cinema and pizza if...
