So today was another day with a long train journey but I arrived at Elsinore, where Shakespeare set Hamlet (but not based on anyone real). Elsinore is a lovely picturesque historical town with a cultural centre and plenty to keep you entertained if you were staying abit longer. as I had plans I only visited the Kronborg castle. It really reminded me of Hampton Court Palace, medieval castle which had been updated by later Landlords. It's only royal connection was it was were the traitorous Queen (The British one, of course) was held there until she got rescued (you know the one from the movie 'The royal affair'). They had a really interesting exhibition where someone had created modern photo portrait of each of the royals key stories with the costumes used. it was really well done.
I jumped back on the train back to the city and then headed off to Christianborg which is at the heart of the city.
This was the best of the Royal palaces, it had the Royal Reception rooms which were beautiful (see below) and a couple of other palace related things (Stables, kitchen).
Loved this barrel roof
How beautiful is this library! It has a lift not stairs to the upper level.
This Throne room is oval which was interesting.
There was also a really interesting exhibition of modern tapestries inspired by the ones that use to hang in Kornborg. Here are some of my favorites.
I think this is early Christian history of Copenhagen (it use to be owned by a Bishop before becoming the Capital).
Tapestry of the current Queen and her consort.
Tapestry of Christian figures.
Here are some other photos from my wanderings:
The Hall of Giants
The tower at Christianborg
This is the Danish Parliament (from the show Borgen) I think?
Library garden fountain with the library in the background.
The new section of the library called 'The Black Diamond'.
After a nice dinner at Gorm I enjoyed a lovely ice cream from Frellsen chokolade which was Pistachio and 'Popstar' - banana and pop rocks candy favour. Delicious!
