Day One
After alot of stress before I got here the actual journey itself was very easy! I stayed in a Capsule hotel at Gatwick over night. Which was interesting and very nice. (link to my Tik Tok here).
Once I arrived in Copenhagen and joined the queue for Passport control - where the Immigration officer found my name very long and asked what I wanted to be known as! I got my stamp and headed to the train station. I had picked up a Visit Copenhagen card and this made travel and visiting place economical and easy. I was able to get to my hotel in 20 minutes but couldn't check in so left my bag and went to explore the city.
I was staying near the Fields Shopping Centre that had a memorial to the recent shooting that took place there but as a British person I am use to being around places were violence has happened. There is something comfortable about Shopping Centres, because while they might hold different shops, they are set up the same and you find a coffee, cinema and pizza if you want them!
I stopped at the Expresso House for lunch (I had eaten at 5am) and then went off to see the Little Mermaid (getting thoroughly lost) but found it eventually.
I then headed off to find the Windmill I had seen in the distance and found it in 'The Fort' - a picturesque but still active Fortress, designed to withstand a siege (hence the windmill).
I then carried on to the Amalien Palace which was a little plain inside but had this amazing courtyard that over looked the canal and Opera House. It did have a great exhibition where the Queen presented all of her jewels that had been collected or inherited over the years. it was nice to get that personal touch when going around the caste.
On the way to the Amalien Palace I stopped at this Fountain which is the Gefion Fountain and very impressive!
